Searching
for the right wedding photographer can sometimes be very
confusing. Obtaining a professional photographer for your
wedding day is highly recommended, and should be given more
than casual consideration. Good photographs will last a
lifetime, and your wedding album and
wedding portraits will remain
with you as cherished, visual memories of your special day.
You should search out a photographer whose style, artistry
and degree of expertise you like, whose professionalism you
approve of, and whose personality is pleasing.
Don't
take a chance and rely solely on your relatives or guests to
take the photographs for you. Start looking for a
professional wedding photographer as soon as possible because
the ones in demand are often booked months, and even
sometimes a year or more in advance. Quality of portraiture,
experience, services provided, pricing and the studio itself
are all important factors that
must be evaluated when looking
for someone to whom you will trust your wedding photographic
session.
To choose the wedding photographer you want, it's a good idea to meet several of them to make good comparisons. If you wait too long, you may not be able to select your preferred photographer of choice. Always ask to look at the photographer's portfolios and wedding albums. When looking through the portraits, try to determine what aspects you find attractive. In addition to evaluating a photographer's work, ask yourself these questions:
Does the photographer....
photograph as a hobby or as a full time career? Do they have any formal education in portrait photography? Ensure that you choose a professional photographer for your wedding.
have
any professional association memberships? (APPA,
PPOC, PPA, WPPI)
A professional photographer needs to stay current.
Photography associations are the best way to keep up
with the changing styles of today's wedding
clientele.
have
a pleasing personality? Do they fully explain any
questions you have and address any concerns with such
things as clothing, backgrounds, time of portraits or
location choice? You should feel comfortable with
your photographer. They will be responsible for the
treasured memories of your wedding day.
offer you the choice of either wedding portrait packages or individual enlargements from your selection of wedding previews? Consider if your portrait needs fit the available packages.
offer quality portraits at reasonable prices? Determine what you would like for wedding portraiture and how much the session, packages and individual portraits will cost in the end.
have a personal portfolio of recent portraits that suit your style and taste in portraiture? Photographers are like artists - each differs in what the final creation will be.
have
a studio complete with numerous backdrops, sets and
props available to create a unique mood for your
session? Is the size of the studio adequate for your
wedding party? Consider the number of guests that
will be in the studio during the portrait session.
bring backgrounds and backup photographic equipment on location? Do they have an assistant to help with the session? You will never be able to reproduce the same day should there be equipment problems. Ensure that your photographer has backup equipment on hand.
